The charm of a tube mic has never been more attainable than with the AKG Perception P820. This condenser microphone with dual-triode ECC83 tube, has a double diaphragm and no fewer than 9 switchable pickup patterns. These are divided into three main settings: cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8. Within these three, six intermediate settings can be selected, allowing you an extremely precise microphone response for your recording situation. From solo vocals to string instruments and brass wind instruments or a rock drum kit: the Perception P820 registers everything in a flawless and natural manner.

AKG P820: construction and applications

The Perception P820 is a rugged microphone with a steel chassis that prevents interference and increases durability. Behind the grey grille you will find the gold-sputtered double-diaphragm microphone capsule. Tube warmth and harmonic distortion are provided for by the carefully selected ECC83 tube. Besides the warm sound of the tube, you are provided with an enormous dynamic range and a maximum SPL of 155 dB.

Remote Control Unit

The power for the tube circuit is provided by the separate Remote Control unit. This good-looking module is provided with a housing of brushed aluminium. At the front are switches for the low-cut (below 80 Hz, 12 dB/oct) and the -20 dB attenuation pad. Furthermore, you will find a large rotary knob with which one of the 9 characteristics can be selected. The rear shows the special 7-pin XLR output which can be used to connect the microphone. The audio signal leads from the individual unit via the standard balanced XLR connector to your mixer, recorder or interface. Finally, a ground lift switch eliminates the hum by ground looping.
