DW Drums Performance Black Diamond 22

This 4-piece shell set is suitable for all-round drummers and consists of a 22 x 18-inch bass drum that produces a deep, warm-sounding tone with plenty of punch and focus. The 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms have a deep, warm sound too and because they're not attached to the bass drum, each one doesn't interfere with the sound of the other. There's also a 16 x 14-inch floor tom that's equipped with three strong and stable feet.

Construction

The Performance series shells are made of North American maple which grows more slowly than the Japanese variety. Because of this, it has greater density which translates into more resonance and therefore more sound too. Believe it or not, even the direction of the wood grain is taken into consideration when putting together the 8 plies of maple that make up each shell for the best possible sound. DW Drums refer to this as HVX construction. The second image shows how the shells are put together. The shells are given bearing edges of 45 degrees as this also adds to the optimal sound quality. Finally, triple flanged hoops and TruePitch tension rods ensure stable tuning.
