Hughes & Kettner Red Box MK 5 Lautsprecher Simulator

The Hughes & Kettner Red Box MK 5 allows you to send a balanced guitar signal with the properties of a 4x12 cabinet to a PA, vocal amp or studio mixer. You can do this directly from a line out, speaker out or send from an effects loop as the Red Box converts line and speaker signals to the balanced level of a microphone. However, this Hughes & Kettner emulates the sound of a speaker cabinet, so you don't have to use a microphone. You can have your guitar sound without latency and noise.

Via subtle equalizing presets, you can fully adjust the speaker-cabinet sound to your liking. The Small/Large allows you to choose between the full sound of a large cabinet and the comprised tone of a small one. Vintage/Modern lets you switch from classic and warm to modern, clear sounds. Lastly, you can choose between the airy Loose and defined Tight. Naturally, this device features the common pad switch and ground-lift switches to allow you to adjust the input gain. They eliminate annoying hum while giving you a choice between -26 or 0dB for speaker or line signals.

Connecting and powering the Red Box MK5

The two unbalanced jack connectors are an input and a thru with unaffected signal. Like on standard DIs, the Red Box MK5 also has a balanced XLR that allows you to connect it to a PA or vocal amplifier, for instance. When there's no phantom power available from the amplifier, you will need a separate adapter or a 9V battery to power this Hughes & Kettner.
