Sequential Prophet-10 Synthesizer

Bet you didn't see this one coming! Sequential have re-released the Prophet 10 which, for the uninitiated, is basically a double Prophet 5 synthesizer from the 1980s. In total, the new P10 features ten voices with two oscillators each and a noise generator, as well as a filter with ADSR and a master/volume ADSR. Both the original P5 and P10 are monstrous synths in terms of possibilities and compatibility, which explains why they enjoyed such popularity among producers and composers. Meanwhile, the Prophet 10 has become extremely rare and is virtually impossible to find. It remains an icon nonetheless, even if only due to its double keyboard design.

The Features of the Sequential Prophet 10

The new P10 isn't as bulky as its predecessor since both the double keyboard design and the sequencer have been taken out. But who cares, most of us do our sequencing on a computer these days anyway. If you do like to work with an external hardware sequencer however, you can simply use the MIDI and CV/gate connections, so you shouldn't run into any trouble there. Under the hood, the only functional difference with the P5 comes down to the number of voices, which have obviously been doubled to 10 here.

Additional Features

The Prophet 10 is equipped with an amazing touch-sensitive Fatar keyboard with aftertouch, and modern MIDI and USB-MIDI connections. Also, if you ever find yourself missing the sonic character of filters from earlier revisions, you can switch the synth back to an older rev model, and there's a special Vintage control fitted to mix in some of that more unstable, old-school sound. It's a beauty to behold and pure melancholy to hear, but the Prophet 10 does come at a price that not everyone is equally able to work with. If you do have the money to spare, you're getting a genuine piece of freshly revamped and improved pop music history in return!
