Drummers who like an open, bright sound with limited sustain are sure to appreciate an aluminium snare like this 14 x 5.5-inch version.

Yamaha Recording Custom aluminium snare

Unlike other shell materials, snare drums that are made of aluminium have a less prominent sustain. One advantage of this is that you don't need to dampen as much. Yamaha offers this snare with two sets of snare wires. The standard shell has 20 snare wires, but the second set in this snare is based on the kind that Steve Gadd uses. It has 14 snares, and the middle four have been removed, leaving ten for a more crispy sound.
